Chacewater Parish Council plays an important role in shaping the future of our parish through involvement in the local planning process. While Cornwall Council is the local planning authority and makes the final decisions on planning applications, Chacewater Parish Council is a statutory consultee. This means we review and comment on planning proposals within the Parish, helping to ensure that new development reflects local needs, respects our rural and historic character, and contributes positively to our community.

Our responses to planning applications are guided by the Chacewater Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) — a community-led document that sets out a shared vision and planning policies for the parish. The NDP carries legal weight in planning decisions and aims to promote sustainable development, protect our environment, and support appropriate growth that benefits local people.

Residents are encouraged to engage with the planning process by viewing applications, submitting comments, and attending Parish Council meetings where planning matters are discussed. Together, we aim to ensure that all development in Chacewater is well-designed, sensitive to its setting, and contributes to a thriving and sustainable future.

Speaking at Parish Council meetings

If you have submitted a planning application or wish to comment on one, you may speak at the start of a Parish Council meeting during the Public Question Time session:

  • You do not need to book in advance, but it helps if you let the Parish Clerk know beforehand so we can manage time fairly.
  • Each person is allowed to speak for up to three minutes with a total of five minutes allocated per topic (or longer at the discretion of the Chair).
  • Councillors will listen but do not usually enter into discussion during Public Question Time.
  • Planning applications are then discussed later in the meeting when the Council considers its formal response.

For details of meeting dates, agendas and how to contact the Clerk, please visit the Meetings section of this website.
